First Shoe at UN Drops: Peter Piot Resigns

First, we had Roger England clamoring for the dissolution of UNAIDS -- an utterly wasteful, unnecessary organization. Good for Roger.

Then, we had DeCock of WHO giving us a large "never mind" about the 25 year, international fight against Heterosexual AIDS, which magically disappeared into thin air.

Now, we have head of UNAIDS, Peter Piot, quitting.

UNITED NATIONS, June 10 (Reuters) - The United Nations' top official in the global fight against AIDS, Peter Piot, is stepping down after 13 years, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said on Tuesday.

Ban, in a speech before the 2008 High Level Meeting on HIV/AIDS, praised Piot for being a "tireless leader who has been at the vanguard of the response to AIDS since the earliest days of the epidemic."

A successor has not yet been named. Piot, a Belgian who co-discovered the Ebola virus in Zaire in 1976, has led the UN's response to the AIDS epidemic as executive director of the Joint U.N. Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) since its inception in 1995.

In a little noticed statement in April, Piot said he would step down when his term ended at the end of this year.

Globally, an estimated 33.2 million people are infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) that causes AIDS and 25 million have died so far from the fatal and incurable disease.
Fatal and incurable disease that magically avoids heterosexuals? What rubbish! But, ....good riddance to Piot!

A virus that discriminates? Is that scientific? I was under the silly impression that only people did that.

Great to see YBYL in action again.

Yet ... as the Titanic founders ... as Ozymandias crumbles ... still the band plays on ... the inestimable Anthony Fauci is awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom ... hail the conquering hero!

Searfarer,

LOL! You know, often Presidents have to give medals to folks to cover up their massive, massive mistakes to avoid political embarrassment.

Remember when Bush gave Presidential medals to George "Slam Dunk" Tenet 3 years ago?

Same with Anthony Fauci!

Now the Guardian joins in too...

HIV affects both homosexuals, bisexuals, and heterosexuals and to say or act as if it is otherwise is absolutely discriminatory. The health of all people is equally important.
