The FDA -- your FDA -- is rife with incompetents and money-grubbing doctors, who are ethically challenged because they take mucho dinero from drug companies. Yes, these are the same folks entrusted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of drugs prescribed to the public, but, of course, how many are going to honestly scrutinize a drug made by Merck, when they have been paid by Merck?
Analogy: Yankees are playing the Red Sox: Mid-game, you find out that an umpire is on the payroll of one George Steinbrenner. And, you think you're gonna get a fair shake on a close play at home plate? Dream on, dreamboy.
Here's the dirty 27. Look at these fine doctors. Nice, impressive resumes. Nice appointments to nice schools and nice hospitals. Now, look at their intertwined paid associations to the drug companies. Blissfully ignorant of their own biases, they carry on. I doubt anything has happened or will happen to these ignorant whores, since Tammany Hall science seems to predominate in our current era.
Also, here is a good article in JAMA further elucidating the systemic conflicts of interest in the medical profession. It'd be nice if the folks at JAMA would actually DO something about this, but progress appears to be glacial. No wonder why these docs spend so much time and energy beating up on these Intelligent Design types so much -- it provides great distraction away from their own malfeasance. That is Machiavelli 101-A. Quick, look over there!!!
Memo to docs: If you take pharma money, you have broken faith with your duty to give sound, unbiased advice to your patients!
Also, many of these drugs are killing people to the tune of 100,000 per year. (See, famous Lazarou study in JAMA.)
So, when are you gonna clean up your act?
UPDATE:
Some progress, albeit glacial, in the ranks of Congress. Hope springs eternal, but, NO, don't hold your breath.
